Machine used was a Silver Reed 840

Yarns used were Bonita Cotton and Crystal Palace Wakiki

Tension 7.2

Begin by “E” wrapping on 100 stitches. 50 to the right and 50 to the left of “0” using the Bonita Cotton. Knit 4 rows. Remember to pull out to “D” position all stitches for the first few rows to help needles to knit off cleanly. Now bring to work needle numbers 60 and 61 and e wrap stitches on them on the next 2 rows. These two stitches will create a fringe along the edge of your placemat.

Set machine to weave according to your manuals. Continue weaving until the Row Counter reads 130. Now push needles 60 and 61 back to out of work position. Stitches will fall off needles and be live. This is what you want. Change back to stockinet stitching and knit 6 rows with just the Bonita and bind off using the latch tool bind off method.

When I set the Silver Reed to weave, I set my point cams on 48 on each side of “0” so that I do not weave on the edge of my placemat.

After I was done I took my placemat to the ironing board and pressed very well with the iron directly on the fabric. I then went to the sewing machine and stitched the beginning and end plain knit sections under the placemat. I also reinforced the side edges where the fringe is with a row of stitching. I then cut the edge of the fringe and any loops that were there.
